Conflict and culture Essay Example for Free
Conflict and culture Essay Conflict is an integral part of human culture. When a number of people of interact with their own individual perspectives, view points, ideologies, cultural and social backgrounds and intellectual development then differences and debates are bound to arise as a logical and inevitable consequence of the interaction (Killian and Pammer Jr. 2003, 3). These differences, acted upon by incompatible interests of attaining personal goals, change into conflict within groups, societies and nations. (Rahim, 2001,1) The greater the diversity and richer the profile of a society, the greater is the scope and range of its embedded conflict. Therefore it is essential to educate people on understanding and handling conflict and treat as an integral component of a democratic society that is important for developing a healthy social life (Killian and Pammer Jr. 2003, 3). In every conflict, whether it is individual or at social scale, culture has always an important role to play. Depending upon the actors involved and the context of conflict, the role of culture in conflict can be direct or subtle, but it is always present as the ultimate factor in deciding the scope of conflict, its direction or its outcome. Culture even decides the existence of conflict, for people who are embedded in the culture of seeing world as a harmonious entity, may not be aware of any conflict through their life. In all the major disputes, debates and disagreement taking place around world, differences in cultural identities and perceptions are fundamental causative factors. A further evidence of the role that culture plays is evinced by peace and harmony existing among societies that have same culture, such as observed between USA and Britain, sharing same historical and cultural roots. Every conflict, whether it is trans-generational, geographical, religious, organizational, or personal, has a cultural component involved. People enshrined in their own culture often react with hostility against any cultural identity that appears contrary to their thought process and ideas. It follows therefore that any effort of conflict resolution needs to incorporate cultural understanding and acknowledge the existence and necessity of diversity (ibid).

Humbert the Pedophile Essay -- Essays Papers
Humbert the Pedophile Lolita, the novel by Vladimir Nabokov, tells the story of Humbert Humbert, who is a perfect example of a pedophile. Although the character Humbert Humbert describes his feelings toward the twelve year old Lolita as love, in actuality, it is obsessive lust. Nabokov does an excellent job displaying the characteristics of pedophilia through this character. Reading Lolita makes us conscious of the need to be more aware that pedophilia is alive and well in our society today. In developing this point, I will examine pedophilia and its clinical characteristics as they relate to Humbert Humbert and our society. While America sits smugly in front of it's televisions and computers, somewhere a pedophile fantasizes about fondling and holding a beautiful child in his arms. According to David Finkelhor's research in A Sourcebook on Child Sexual Abuse(43), pedophiles are adults, both male and female, who have a sexual preference toward prepubescent children (generally aged 13 or younger). It is important to realize that pedophilia does not always include child sexual abuse. The pedophile must act upon his desires before it is considered sexual abuse. Humbert, in fact, does act upon his urges by looking, fantasizing, and actually holding Lolita on his lap. In Aristos Bouius's essay, Pedophilia Versus Abuse, it is suggested that a real pedophile loves children and doesn't want to hurt them in any way, but rather wants a relationship with the child which can be an enjoyable and loving experience on both sides. Pedophiles often take on a parental role toward the child, and the child, craving love and attention, accepts the touching, holding or even the act of sex. Yongzheng Emperor
Juan Portem Aisin Gioro Yinzhen, the Yongzheng emperor, ruled from 1723 to 1735 and succeeded his father, Aisin Gioro Xuanye, who was known as one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. In order to live up to his fatherââ¬â¢s name and his position Yongzheng had to produce an organized, thriving society. To do this, Yongzhengââ¬â¢s ideal of moral leadership was based on a strict centralization of imperial control, regardless of the funds required or the obstacles ahead.By centralizing imperial control he gains the ability to control the nation as a whole and his citizens as one unified society rather than a disordered society. Some of his policies that demonstrated his focus on centralization of imperial control included eliminating gentry tax breaks and folding the head tax into the land tax, and although it was unsuccessful, he also attempted to make a form of Chinese the standard spoken language within his nation. In addition, he focused on using his power to centrally c ontrol local grain reserves and liberate servile tenants, agricultural workers, and other degraded status groups. Many, if not all, of these actions have one similar common idea which is simplification and by simplifying the society he can assert his power and authority properly as an adequate emperor. For instance, his attempt to make a certain form of Chinese the standard language would have led to a nation that has citizens that all understand each other, allowing them to express their thoughts appropriately to their emperor. Essentially, Yongzheng believes that the key to good government and an orderly, prosperous society lies within simplicity. Complicated situations only causes struggle and difficulty, so by minimizing these complicated situations Yongzheng can focus much more on the flourishing of his nation.

Blurred Lines The Date Rape Song Essay - 942 Words
For twelve weeks Blurred Lines was at the top of the Billboard 100 charts and could be heard thumping from speakers everywhere. Sung by Robin Thicke and featuring prominent rappers T.I. Harris and Pharrell, this track was proclaimed the anthem for summer 2013 . At the surface the song is seemingly harmless with a cheery rhythmic beat and catchy lyrics, but when examining the song and accompanying music video, Blurred Lines is anything but harmless. Dubbed ââ¬Å"that rape songâ⬠by many discerning listeners, Blurred Lines is a song about the blurred lines of consent. With gems such as ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re an animal, just let me liberate youâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll give you somethinââ¬â¢ big enough to tear yo ass in twoâ⬠featured throughout the song it is astonishing howâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Womenââ¬â¢s sexuality in Blurred Lines is portrayed as being naturally animalistic but suppressed by societyââ¬â¢s pressure to be a good girl. The song sugges ts that women just need a liberator like Thicke to free them of this suppression by being persistent in sexual pursuits and of course ââ¬Å"smack that ass and pull your hairâ⬠in the process of liberation. Every action by a woman is perceived as being an indicator that they want wild sex as illustrated by the lyrics ââ¬Å"the way you grab me, must wanna get nastyâ⬠. At one point in the music video a stop sign is placed atop a womanââ¬â¢s behind while the lyrics complain about the hate of blurred lines, because according to Blurred Lines, even stop means go. Menââ¬â¢s sexuality isnââ¬â¢t portrayed as animalistic or predatory in the song or video, instead men are liberators that are helping women by fulfilling the desires that they know women truly want. This is emphasized by Thicke chanting ââ¬Å"I know you want itâ⬠throughout the entire song. The music video also addresses a key issue of menââ¬â¢s sexuality, penis size. In order to provide the mo st satisfaction for women, men must have a large penis. Thicke makes sure you know what he is working with by spelling out ââ¬Å"Robin Thicke has a big dickâ⬠with silver balloons in the background of his music video. This is also addressed in T.I.ââ¬â¢s verse where he tells women he will ââ¬Å"give you somethinââ¬â¢ big enough to tear yo ass in twoâ⬠. Constraint Induced Aphasia Therapy For Aphasiac Patients...
After suffering from a stroke, many victims go through rehabilitation to help regain the language skills they lost from their stroke. Specific abilities that are lost or impaired are speech and language skills, which result in acquiring aphasia. In 2001, constraint induced aphasia therapy (CIAT) was introduced by Friedemann Pulvermuller. It is a therapeutic technique that allows one to achieve their individual vocational communication needs. CIAT is known to be one of the most successful forms of therapy for aphasiac patients with promising and positive outcomes. Because of CIATââ¬â¢s stringent treatment structure, oneââ¬â¢s brain is trained to use its cognitive and vocational abilities that may have been damaged during the stroke. CIAT requires patients to use spoken language instead of other forms of nonverbal communication that they naturally want to use. Unlike many other forms of therapy, CIAT helps one to expand their expressive output abilities and their personal lan guage production skills. Although stroke rehabilitation does not entirely restore brain damage, constraint induced aphasia therapy can significantly help one achieve their vocational communication needs again. A patient who goes through CIAT is exposed to an extremely intense therapy when they begin treatment. Usually, therapy will last for three to four hours everyday for about two weeks or ten therapy days The length of CIAT is significantly shorter than conventional speech and language therapy because

Vietnam The Mixture of Protests and Politics - 1659 Words
nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The United States was unjustified in its involvement in the Vietnam War because, in my opinion, the U.S had little justification to sacrifice thousands of innocent youths for political ideals. It was the longest and most unpopular war in which the United States fought. Many Americans on the home front protested their governmentââ¬â¢s involvement in the war. Many young Americans felt that there was no reason to fight for a cause they did not believe in, especially in such a strange foreign country. The civil rights movement also strongly influenced many of the war protests. This was because such a large percentage of minority soldiers sent over to fight were being unfairly treated. Information System Cryptography
Question: Discuss about the Information Systemfor Cryptography. Answer: Cryptography can be defined as protecting the data or information by changing the whole information into something which is not readable by normal human beings mainly in some sort of numbers or combination of numbers and alphabets. The format in which it is written is called Cipher text. In order to decrypt the code, one of the user should hold a secret key or decipher by which they can get to know the real code and read it in plain text. The encrypted messages can also be broken using cryptanalysis and is called code breaking (Buchmann, 2013). Cryptography is generally used to secure information in an e-mail message, credit card information and corporate data. Cryptography systems can be classified into two parts that is Symmetric Systems and Asymmetric Systems. Symmetric Systems Symmetric Encryption is one of the oldest and the most used technique and is also the best known among them. To encrypt information, it uses a number or an array of strings of random letters which can be applied on information to change the content. To decrypt the same information, the receiver should also have the same secret key so that the message can be decoded. For two communicating parties, using the symmetric encryption for secure communication, the key holds a shared secret between the two. There are many symmetric encryption algorithms present such as AES, DES, Blowfish and Skipjack. It is more useful than asymmetric encryption and mainly used for encoding a bulk of data. Symmetric key ciphers are much useful as it is relatively inexpensive for these ciphers to produce a strong key. The keys are mainly used for any small protection level and the algorithms that are used here are relatively inexpensive to use as well as process (Katz Lindell, 2014). Implementing symmetric cr yptography is quite easy and can be highly effective as it does not give any significant time when it comes to encryption and decryption. Symmetric cryptography can also provide a degree of authentication because the code that is encoded with Symmetric Encryption cannot be decrypted with any other Symmetric key. Therefore in order to decode a code, both the parties need to keep the keys within themselves in order to decrypt the message. Asymmetric Encryption There is a problem with exchanging of the keys over the internet or a large network that is it can fall in to someone elses hand. Anyone knowing the secret key can easily decrypt the message. For the asymmetric encryption, there are mainly two related keys are present that are a pair. Public key is something which is freely available to everyone whoever wants to send the message and the second is the private key which needs to be kept save and is known to the end user only. Any message that needs to get encrypted needs the public key and can be decrypted by using the same algorithm but with the help of matching private key (Buchmann, 2013). The message which is encrypted using public key can be accessed with the matching public key. The advantage of using asymmetric encryption is that public keys are already available over the internet so it needs not to be shared but in order to decrypt the message the same matching private key is needed. The only problem that asymmetric encryption faces is that it is very much slower than later one and more processing power is required in order to encrypt and decrypt the message. Application of cryptography is that it can used in mailing system or even when data is uploaded it is encrypted using public key and is decoded by the user who uses the same private key. Advantage of encrypting the data is that to decode it, computers will need very long time to decode without proper keys (Katz Lindell, 2014.) Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a type of software that is meant to alert automatically administrators if someone is tries to enter without proper authorization into the network system or with the help of malicious activities or making some policy violations. It generally works by monitoring system activities through finding vulnerabilities in the system. This is done by performing a thorough analysis of the networks which are already stored in the network for the known attacks. It also helps in by automatically monitoring the internet and search for any latest threats which could help in preventing any future attacks (Kenkre, Pai Colaco, 2015). Intrusion Detection System is followed a series of processes that is host based which are considered to be the passive component and includes system configuration files which are mainly used to detect anomalies if there are any files are missing or not. Intrusion Detection System performs in various ways. In signature based detection, th e present signature is compared with any previous signatures to get a match to discover the current threats. This is quite useful for finding any known threats but not useful when it comes to finding any unknown threats or the threats that are hidden. Second type of detection is Statistical anomaly based detection where any such anomaly will be decided by the IDS and monitored. It mainly works with the network traffic and compares it against baseline (Liao et al., 2013). Another type is Anomaly based detection which compares the behavior of threats with previously happened threats so to get a match. Intrusion Detection System is mainly works on three components that is Network Node Intrusion Detection System (NNIDS), Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) and Host Intrusion Detection System (HIDS). Network Intrusion detection system helps to analyze the traffic present on the subnet and will try to make a match to the traffic that is passing continuously by the attacker which are known to the library for future reference. In Network Node Intrusion Detection System, it is similar to the previous one but here single host monitors the passing traffic and not on a whole network which makes it quite easy to find any problem if any persists. The third is the Host Intrusion Detection System which takes account of the whole system and compares it with previously taken traffic records (Kenkre, Pai Colaco, 2015). If there are significant differences, like some files are missing or something like that, it automatically alerts the administrator about the anomaly. A reactive Intrusion Detection System helps in detecting any unknown behavioral changes and alerts the administrator but before notifying the administrator, it will try to eliminate the threat from its own. This means that it will block any incoming traffic from the source IP address or the user (Liao et al., 2013). Intrusion Detection System was developed to keep track of the websites that are attacked on th eir network level which includes the Pentagon, the White House, NATO and the US Defense Department. With the help of this, safeguarding of security is becoming more and more difficult as the possible technologies of attacks are becoming more and more complicated and also at the same time, technical ability is also reducing so as to track the attacker.
